Building Regulations and Glazing
We have designed Sovereign Stormsure windows to accept 24mm insulating glass units, using Low E glass to comply with the amended Building Regulations Approved Document ‘L’ 2006. Low E glass (low emissivity) has a surface coating that improves substantially its energy efficiency. This coating lets the sun’s rays through and reflects heat back into the room.
All glazing must comply with the requirements of Part N of the Building Regulations, 1998 edition and Part P2.2 of the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations, 1990 edition or later. Anyone specifying glazing should refer to these.
For windows more than 1350mm in height, we supply low level glazing units as tempered safety glass to satisfy BS 6262: Part 4: 1994.
Factory Glazing - STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
To ensure quality and reliability, we carry out our glazing in controlled factory conditions. We follow strictly the correct glazing practices: BS 6262: 1982 (including a 5mm clearance between the edge of the glass unit and the rebate), as well as GGF and NHBC recommendations.
When you specify factory glazing, we supply Sovereign Stormsure windows with 24mm clear soft-coat Low E insulating glass units and a silver spacer bar. A centre pane U-Value of 1.4W/m2K achieves a whole window thermal transmittance of 1.8W/m2K.
Approved Document L
JELD-WEN standard factory glazing specification achieves a whole window U-Value of 1.8W/m2K. Other window performances are available on request. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Obscure Glass
If you need obscure glazing, we supply ‘ice effect’ as standard – or you could specify leaf effect, tulip effect or dew effect (see options above).
Leaded Glass
You can also opt for diamond or rectangular leaded glazing, as shown above.
Toughened Tampered Safety Glass
All safety glazing and insulating glass units, where applicable, are marked with the appropriate identification to ensure correct, safe installation and permanent traceability.
Laminated Glass
A laminated external pane is recommended for enhanced resistance against breakage and entry.
Acoustic Windows
As external noise is a growing problem in many areas, demand has increased for windows with good acoustic performance, especially as planning consents given on inner city sites or close to railways, major roads or airports, now require it.
JELD-WEN has experience in meeting these requirements. Omitting the trickle ventilator in the window head substantially improves acoustic performance, and more can be achieved with special glazing, or triple acoustic glazing. Contact us for details of our acoustic test results.
