Finishing Options - Windows

Windows Finishing Options

Factory Finishing - STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

For the best overall quality, we recommend factory finishing with Hi-Build stain or Hi-Build paint. This gives improved protection on-site, and saves time and decoration costs.

Reliability in paint performance starts with the timber itself. We carefully control the moisture content of the timber in our factory, to ensure our windows are fit for the conditions they’ll face when installed.

Our preservation system and meticulous preparation also plays an important part in the performance of our windows. And of course, our Hi-Build paint application is crucial. Whether you choose an opaque paint or translucent stain finish, we start with a basecoat, then build up the paint or stain film on this foundation, taking great care over surface preparation, cleanliness and temperature at each stage. The result is a tough, durable coating that lasts for many years. So tough, in fact, that we put our name to it for 10 years on opaque colours and 6 years on stains.

The only maintenance our windows need is an occasional wash down with a pH neutral soap solution, and perhaps a touch-up to make good any minor damage from installation or a window cleaner’s ladder. Never use an acid or alkali brick or stone cleaner.

Primed or Basecoat Stained

If you prefer to finish the windows yourself, we can supply them primed, with knotting treatment pre-applied, or with a translucent basecoat stain. This is the base level, and you’ll need to build up the decoration from this on-site. You can achieve a good finish with windows supplied primed or basecoat stained, but take care to apply further knotting where necessary. Also keep surfaces clean and dry, rub them down between coats, and make sure each coat is of adequate thickness.

While JELD-WEN makes every effort to ensure frames are ready for decoration when delivered, we cannot guarantee the paint finish or performance of windows supplied unfinished, or finished by others.

  • Hi-Build paint (white standard) or your choice of the optional colours shown below)
  • Hi-Build stain finish
  • primed only
  • basecoat stained only

We recommend you use the JELD-WEN cavity closer system when installing factory finished windows.
